Saving the planet and feeling electric: EV Driver Spotlight

As the efforts to tackle climate change become more important than ever, sustainability continues to be at the forefront of people’s minds. As a business, it’s always been key to play our role in saving the planet, and one of the ways we contribute is through our EV (electric vehicle) initiative for colleagues. It’s already gathered momentum after its launch in 2019 and today we’re proud to have a total of 42 vehicles in our rapidly growing fleet (7% of our total UK fleet). Our drivers have racked up approximately 450,000 miles in their electric vehicles so far – amounting to an impressive 18 times around the earth, and just short of a journey to the moon and back!

For this month’s campaign, we put the spotlight on our electric vehicle drivers to get an insight into what driving an EV means to them. Throughout November, we carried out a series of interviews and asked why they chose an electric vehicle, what they enjoy most about it, and what advice they’d give to anyone considering the switch to electric.

Most of our EV drivers are field colleagues who spend their working day on the road. Therefore, it became apparent that they needed an efficient way to travel to stores without further impacting the environment. Although we discovered the tax savings were a key benefit for them, one message was clear throughout – they all felt proud to be doing their part for the planet.

The figures speak for themselves - on average, each of our EVs saves just under 4 tonnes of tailpipe CO2 per annum versus its combustion vehicle equivalent. In our last financial year, we saved 38 tonnes of CO2 with our EVs and we are delighted to share that we’ve saved that amount already, just four months into our current financial year!

Greg Reed, Customer Development Executive in Unilever Away from Home comments,  “What I enjoy most about having an electric vehicle is knowing that I’m not pumping out any CO2 anymore. I worked out that based on my mileage over the last 12 months, if I had kept my diesel car I would have pumped out 4.1 tonnes of CO2 – it’s great to know how much of a difference it’s making.”

The convenient at home charging docks and EV charging locations throughout the country make it easy to incorporate into our drivers’ daily routine – not to mention no more queuing at petrol stations!

Derek Kirk, Territory Manager at PepsiCo says, “Once you go electric, you will never go back!”

Join us throughout December for our Christmas Countdown: 12 days of retail execution

As one campaign closes, we open the door to the next as we step in to Christmas. For the rest of December, we we’ll be counting down to Christmas with our ’12 days of retail execution.’ In the midst of a seasonal selling peak, it felt like the perfect time to showcase some of the fantastic work our client teams have been involved with. With the end of 2021 approaching, we’ll be sharing a round-up of some of the best retail execution from throughout the year.

Our talented teams in grocery, convenience and the away from home sector use industry leading data, product knowledge and ‘out of the box’ thinking to bring their displays to life and maximise sales for the brands we partner with. Our expert technology teams have also been busy, working hard to implement new ways of working and driving an omni channel approach online and in-store. We’ll shine a light on some of their recent achievements as they continue to drive digital transformation in retail.
